2012 Romeo and Juliet
As part of Radio 3’s celebration of the 450th anniversary of Shakespeare’s birth, Drama On 3 will be airing Shakespeare’s quick-witted summer tragedy Romeo and Juliet on Sunday April 27th at 10pm. It features Trystan Gravelle and Vanessa Kirby as the lovers, and David Tennant as Prince Escalus.
In a town full of hatred, where the streets ring with the Capulet/Montague feud and swords are too easily drawn, Romeo and Juliet find each other, and love, and never let go.

The play first aired in April 2012 as part of the London 2012 Festival and Cultural Olympiad. The BBC produced a number of programmes, both on TV and radio to make up a Shakespeare Season. Romeo and Juliet formed part of the Shakespeare And Love strand, together with a new production of Twelfth Night, featuring the same cast, and a repeat of a 2011 broadcast of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
This is the third time David Tennant has been involved with the play. In 2000 he played Romeo in the Royal Shakespeare Company’s production and in 1998 he played Mercutio in the Arkangel Shakespeare audio recording of the play.
