It's an open secret in China that… well, how can we put it…? The men's national soccer team sucks. But, hey, doesn't ours suck too? Well, not compared to the Chinese team. While the US has never made it past the quarter-finals of the World Cup, China's only qualified for the contest once - in 2002 - and lost every match without scoring a goal.
But, one thing both countries have in common is the success of their national women's soccer teams. The US has won three World Cup titles and four Olympic golds. China's women's team has won eight Asian Cup tournaments, and gold medals at the Asian games three times.
So, here’s a tip… if you're ever in china and want to break the ice, smile and make a light-hearted quip about the terrible performance of the Chinese men's soccer team. 99.99% of the population… that’s more or less everyone who's not in the team… will most likely agree with you and smile back.
